Overview
About the stadium
Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro is the principal football ground of Ibagué, the heart of the Tolima department in central Colombia. It is the home of Deportes Tolima, one of the leading clubs in the Colombian top flight, the Categoría Primera A. The stadium sits in a city famed as the "musical capital of Colombia", and its terraces often blend football chants with Andean rhythms.
Key facts
Designed by architect Bernardo Telo, the ground opened on 20 July 1955. After decades of rebuilding it now holds roughly 28,100 spectators. The stadium lies at a mid-altitude of around 1,285 metres, giving matches a brisk tempo without the extremes of Bogotá's high-altitude pitches.

- Capacity: ~28,100 spectators
- Opened: 1955
- League: Categoría Primera A
Deeply woven into the city's culture, the stadium becomes one of the loudest venues in the region on match days, where regional pride and football passion meet.
History
Journey through time
The story of Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro began in 1955, when it was reportedly built in just 55 days to a design by architect Bernardo Telo. At the inauguration on 20 July 1955, Deportes Tolima lost 2–3 to Boca Juniors de Cali. The original capacity was a modest 3,000.
A ground transformed
The stadium underwent successive major works. The first big expansion in 1970 for the National Games lifted capacity to 18,000. In 1981 the western grandstand collapsed and had to be reduced to a single tier. At the turn of the millennium a comprehensive rebuild followed FIFA requirements, including new floodlighting.
- 2003 (Finalización): Deportes Tolima's first league title
- 2018 (Apertura): second Primera A crown
- 2021 (Apertura): third league championship
In 2015 a new playing surface and seats were installed, settling capacity at today's ~28,100. In 2011 the ground also hosted Ronaldo's final professional match, for Corinthians against Tolima.
Atmosphere
Matchday
The atmosphere at Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro is fervent and unmistakably Colombian. The supporters of Deportes Tolima, nicknamed "los Pijaos", fill the stands with wine-red and gold and create a cauldron of noise that carries across Ibagué — the "musical capital of Colombia".
A wine-and-gold heartbeat
The loudest fan groups, massed behind the goals, drive every attack on with drums, trumpets and song. It is fitting that in a city devoted to music the home end has such a rhythmic, melodic character.
- Club colours: wine-red and gold
- Fans' nickname: los Pijaos
- Season peak: Primera A play-offs
The most charged moments come during the knockout rounds and regional derbies. When Tolima push forward, the stands rise as one and the stadium turns into a deafening theatre. The atmosphere fuses sporting passion with pride in the city and its musical heritage.
