The stadium was built in 2012 for Colombia's National Games, opening with an initial capacity of around 8,000. From the outset it was conceived as a modern, multi-purpose venue intended to give Montería a ground worthy of the city's growing ambitions.

From the Games to Colombia's top flight

In December 2015 the venue was given the name Jaraguay through a public citizens' contest, honouring a Zenú cacique (chief) who once ruled in the area of present-day Montería. Before that it was known simply as the Estadio Municipal de Montería; it is also nicknamed the Monumental del Sinú.

A decisive moment came in 2017, when a new eastern grandstand (the Tribuna Oriental) added around 4,000 seats and lifted capacity to today's figure of roughly 12,000. The expansion arrived as Jaguares de Córdoba established themselves among Colombia's elite and the ground needed to meet top-flight requirements. That steady growth mirrors the club's own journey — from a regional project to a regular presence in the Categoría Primera A.
