Overview
About the stadium
Estadio Daniel Villa Zapata is a football ground in Barrancabermeja, a river port on the Magdalena in Colombia's Santander Department. The arena is the traditional home of Alianza Petrolera, the club now competing as Alianza FC, whose name nods to the oil industry that defines this region. After a complete reconstruction between 2012 and 2015, the stadium seats 10,400 spectators, making it a compact but modern venue.
A ground in the oil city
The stadium sits in the lowlands at just 75 metres above sea level, where tropical heat keeps year-round averages around 27.7°C. A natural grass pitch and tight stands create an enclosed setting that puts fans close to the action.

History
Journey through time
The stadium's history dates to 1960, when the original ground was built in Barrancabermeja. In 1965 it was named after Daniel Villa Zapata, a dentist from Antioquia who settled in the town in the 1940s and became an important local figure thanks to his enthusiasm for sport.
From old arena to modern venue
Over the decades the ground hosted many clubs — besides Alianza Petrolera, it welcomed Atlético Bucaramanga, Oro Negro, Cúcuta Deportivo and Real Santander. One historic fixture was the first leg of the 2002 Categoría Primera B final series between Alianza Petrolera and Centauros Villavicencio, which ended goalless.
- 1960: opening of the original stadium
- 1965: named after Daniel Villa Zapata
- 2012–2015: demolished and fully rebuilt to seat 10,400
- 2025: Orsomarso S.C. became a new tenant
The reconstruction was driven by tighter safety regulations, replacing the ageing ground with a modern arena.
Atmosphere
Matchday
The atmosphere at Estadio Daniel Villa Zapata carries a distinctive edge shaped by the heat and the enclosed design. Supporters of Alianza sit close to the turf, so even a 10,400-capacity arena can generate an intense backdrop, with noise bouncing off the compact stands.
Heat, humidity and passion
Matches are often played in sultry tropical conditions, when temperatures soar and the air is heavy with humidity from the Magdalena River. For visiting teams from cooler Andean cities, playing in Barrancabermeja is a demanding physical test.
- Climate: tropical heat, averaging around 27.7°C
- Home advantage: heat and humidity tax opponents from higher-altitude cities
- Closeness to the pitch: compact stands amplify the noise
The club's identity tied to the oil industry and a proud working city lends fixtures a sense of local pride and warm home support.
